Tony nominee Kathryn Erbe and more will join the previously announced three-time Tony winner Frank Langella in Florian Zeller's The Father. The American premiere of the translation by two-time Tony and Oscar winner Christopher Hampton will begin previews on March 22 and now officially open on April 14. Directed by Tony winner Doug Hughes, the production had previously been set to open on April 12 at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Joining Frank Langella as André and Erbe (The Speed of Darkness, Law & Order) as Anne, will be Brian Avers (Rock ‘n’ Roll) as Pierre, Charles Borland (A Man for All Seasons) as Man, Hannah Cabell (Grounded) as Laura and Liz Wisan (Other Desert Cities) as Woman.
Now 80 years old, André was once a tap dancer. He lives with his daughter Anne and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover, Pierre? The thing is, he is still wearing his pajamas, and he can’t find his watch. He is starting to wonder if he’s losing control.
The production will feature scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald Holder and original music and sound design Fitz Patton, with Jim Steinmeyer as illusion consultant.
